Visual arts participation in Barnsley is below the national average and The Civic is keen to improve the numbers of young people who engage with the work by introducing a range of workshops and participatory activity which responds to the artwork on display. This aims to reduce the amount of antisocial behaviour exhibited by some of the young people in the area and offer them another outlet for their energies.
Solution
The Civic will run weekly workshops facilitated by arts practitioners which will be geared towards young people in the community. This will aim to bring young people into the environment and channel theitr energy into positive activity rather than destructive vandalism
