In 2013, the centenary of the birth of one of Britain’s most remarkable composers, we will be touring a new production of Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring. A work never before performed by us, this will be a first for the most of our touring venues and a fitting tribute in a year of celebrations.

Situation
The operatic works of Benjamin Britten have rarely been performed at smaller venues in Wales and indeed across England. Opportunities to experience the operas of this great British composer - the centenary of whose birth is celebrated in 2013 - are extremely limited outside the bigger cities in the UK and yet these are some of the most wonderful operas ever written. Short of travelling many miles and incurring all the attendant costs, the majority of audiences will never experience them live.
Solution
Mid Wales Opera will tour to small and mid-scale venues across Wales and England during Autumn 2013, bringing a brand new, fully-professional production of Britten's comic masterpiece "Albert Herring" to audiences across the land. We will accompany the performances with workshops and talks and other events, encouraging audiences to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the wonder of Britten's operas in their local venue.
