Situation

250,000 children live on the streets and in the slums of Kolkata. These children are denied many of the rights those in industrialised countries take for granted - the right to education, the right to health care and even the rights to basic shelter, food and safety. Many of these children have been abandoned by their families or have been trafficked into forced labour or sexual slavery. Even if they escape the immediacy of their condition, they often have nowhere to go and no-one to go to.

Solution

This particular project will provide 64 of these abandoned or trafficked children with the protection and education they need to have the opportunity of a better life. These 64 boys, ranging from 5-12 receive counselling, schooling (and educational support), nutritious meals and health care - as well as skills such as computing.
