To record Mendelssohn’s great oratorio ‘Elijah’ on Paul McCreesh’s new record label. The recording will recreate the work’s first performances with the combined forces of Gabrieli, four UK youth choirs & the Wroclaw Philharmonic Choir, & will build on Gabrieli’s world-renowned recording legacy.

    Situation

Record companies are no longer able to provide the resources to fund the recording of great large-scale vocal works. With the reduction in income from recordings and concert engagements in a turbulent economic climate, Gabrieli needs to fundraise in order to continue producing recordings of the ensemble’s outstanding performances, which document substantial musical research. Young people rarely get the opportunity to perform large-scale works with orchestra due to their own limited resources.

    Solution

Gabrieli will record on Paul McCreesh’s own label to ensure the creation of recordings of new interpretations of substantial vocal/orchestral works. Gabrieli has invited four of the finest UK youth choirs to perform on the recording of Mendelssohn’s ‘Elijah’ in order to give young singers the opportunity to perform a large-scale work which they would not otherwise get to perform, & to learn from performing alongside experienced professional musicians.
