The Orchestra began the FUNharmonics concert series for families in 1995 and each year we deliver three hour long family concerts. The concerts take place in the weekend at the Royal Festival Hall and are designed for the entire family, although they are particularly popular with young families. They are hosted by a presenter such as Chris Jarvis, presenter of the BBC’s ‘Cbeebies’.

    Situation

Before and after each concert free activities are provided in the foyer. These include circus skills groups, face painters and the very popular ‘have-a-go’ instrument sessions which give children an opportunity to try out different instruments under the tuition of London Philharmonic Orchestra players. Concerts in the 2008/09 season have been programmed as follows; Saturday 29 November 2008, 11.30am-12.30pm 'Transports of Delight' with music by Prokofiev, Honegger, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky and Wagner Sunday 8 March 2009, 11.30am-12.30pm 'Musical Menagerie' with music by Stravinsky, Stephen McNeff and Matthew Hindson Saturday 16 May 2009, 11.30am-12.30pm 'Fisticuffs and Fairies' with music by Walton, Mendelssohn, Prokofiev and Bernstein
