    Situation

We have acquired a barge which we are currently converting to our office and multi faceted training/resource centre. It will be located in Leith, Edinburgh and we aim to have it open by the end of 2010.It will have an exhibition space, workshop/activity area, fair trade stall and small cinema/theatre. This will be the main base from where we deliver our educational project in Scotland. School groups will visit the barge for exhibitions and 'global citizen days'/ focus weeks. We believe that the project will be a unique resource - a physical location for young people to interact with global issues. To our knowledge no other project will offer this level of interactive experience in Scotland. The project will add to schools resources for teaching global citizenship and enable them to develop the issues of social justice and sustainability into the curriculum. Raising awareness of global concerns and showing the potential for change fosters knowledge and attitudes which promote justice and equality. It encourages the connections at the centre of our work, to change lives. Costs: Barge acquisition £70,000 plus towage Conversion costs £210,000 Global Citizenship Exhibition and equipment £70,000 Total £350,000
