The Making the most of life project is to take away people's perception of what a hospice is and to empower them to know how to make a referral and to not be scared to use hospice care, for themselves, on behalf of someone else or through a health care professional.

Situation

We are often told that people are scared of the word HOSPICE, they think it is just a place you come to die, its only for older people and just for people with cancer. The project aims to change people's perceptions so that they use the valuable service the hospice provides much earlier in their diagnosis and educate them to know how to access it. This will also relieve some of the pressure of hospital admissions

Solution

By knowing how the service can help, and who it can help, it will encourage more referrals either via picking up the phone or sending an e-mail to the hospice directly or via a health care professional. Sadly some people do spend their last days with us but it also gives the message that a hospice is a happy place that can help people to make the most of their lives whilst they are able to
