One of Forest’s great strengths is its pupil profile. We welcome a wide range of pupils from diverse backgrounds and this rich social mix ensures that the values and ideals of the School are maintained and the great potential of our pupils is encouraged. We work to sustain and build on this with our Bursary Fund so that we can continue to make financial awards according to need, and extend access to those who could not otherwise enjoy an education which will develop their abilities to their fullest and establish the highest expectations of what is possible.

    Situation

Ideally we would like to generate sufficient funds to establish a foundation but for the present we are increasing our awards on a ‘money in, money out’ basis to deliver immediate benefits for deserving pupils. Awards are funded by gifts of all sizes from parents, Old Foresters and pupils. We have also forged strong links with the wider business community and charitable trusts to fund Sixth Form entrants and would like to extend this further to include pupils entering Year 7 at the age of 11. Major sponsors receive a general report on pupil progress and are welcome to join the wider school community at events. Some are involved in our careers support work. In addition to Academic Awards there are existing scholarships and bursaries in Music, Drama, Art and Sport and we would like to be able to extend our offering in all these areas. Full details on currently available awards are on the website: www.forest.org.uk. It costs approximately £100,000 to fund each pupil through the Senior School and £27,000 for a Sixth Form place. To offer a new award we need formal commitment to support a pupil for seven years or two years or sufficient accumulated funds and projected income on account. Most major sponsors pay termly fees which in 2009/10 were £4298. Every contribution represents an important and exciting commitment to a real child, vital to protecting the diversity which runs deep in our heritage and personality as a school.
