There are hundreds of informal, non-registered crèches in South Africa looking after thousands of highly vulnerable small children in both rural and urban areas. Our aim is to train and empower the people [mainly women] running the crèches to recognise and act on suspected abuse.

    Situation

We know from experience that if we train these women [and men] that each learner will identify at least 4 small children who are being abused, often many more, and report the abuse to either the police, social welfare or Childline SA. This programme, run on our behalf by Childline SA, is now in its fourth year and is hugely successful with many hundreds of abused children being bought to the attention of the authorities, and thousands more children and many communities positively impacted by the programme. It is simple but hugely effective. Our aim is to spread it beyond the current three provinces to all of South Africa. The cost is between £150 and £170 per learner for a 6 day programme over three or six weeks - approximately £27 per day.. We aim to raise enough to start another programme in Limpopo and the Eastern Cape
