To continue providing excellent services to the disabled children and adults who use CEDA’s services we urgently need to replace our adapted minibuses. The buses are used to get people to and from their homes to CEDA and for accessing community activities as identified within their personal development plans.

    Situation

Having use of the minibus is a lifeline to our service users, without it some people cannot access our service which works with them to increase their independence through learning, empowerment and personal development. Although we actively encourage the use of public transport, for some disabled people this is not an option as wheelchair accessible transport is not readily available (particularly in rural areas) and taxi’s are cost prohibitive. We currently have two minibuses with two sets of running and maintenance costs but we are hoping to replace these with one new bus which will allow us support the same number of people as it has a larger capacity without the higher level of maintenance and running costs. One adapted wheelchair accessible bus costs in the region of £50,000 (purchase price of 17 seater minibus plus adaption costs).
