    Situation

Education is one of the first levers to child empowerment and alleviation of child poverty. The lack of access to education in rural areas of Mopti region, led to an initiative developed by our Malian partner, AEDM (L’Agence Evangélique de Développement du Mali). Passerelle is a fast learning process that gives disadvantaged children, a second chance to catch up with their peers, enabling them to re-integrate into the formal educational system after 9 months. Although the Malian government fully supports Passerelle and recognises it as a Millennium Development Goal and an instrument for “Education for All 2015”, the reality is very different in Koro due to lack of financial and technical resources. By providing specific training in the areas of Children's Rights and Protection to duty-bearers, the project will directly and indirectly reduce child exploitation in a country/region that the abuse of children’s right is widespread. The project will also train 60 Passerelle Management Committees, 20 local people as teachers who will monitor the progress of Passerelle and teach in their own villages, after the end of this particular project. The project will have at least 4000 indirect beneficiaries including the immediate families of the children and the local communities of 20 villages.
