Situation

Marginalised young people often face many barriers from being active citizens in society, which includes having their voice heard at the policy table. These problems are often based around the inequalities they face from being part of certain groups (disabled, LGBT, BAME, offenders, ex-offenders). When these young people are not represented in policy making further inequality becomes embedded in society. It is this problem that the Certificate seeks to change.

Solution

IARS offers all young people who volunteer with the organisation the opportunity to have their activities accredited to University Level. In Partnership with London Metropolitan University IARS have designed the Work Based Certificate in Youth Policy. The course is work based though allows students to gain a taster of University life before deciding whether or not it is a path they wish to embark upon.
