    Situation

There is an increasing awareness and concern about the amount of violent actions and behaviour between young people. We see a corresponding increase in the use of mediation and other forms of promoting peaceful resolution arising in schools, care homes and young people's communities to combat violent behaviour. Restorative Approaches can help by allowing all concerned to voice their opinions and take responsibility for their feelings and behaviour. Restorative approaches empower young people, parents and teachers to handle conflict in a positive way whilst repairing the damage done to the community. The Restorative Approaches and Young People project would raise awareness of the benefits of restorative approaches and promote positive outcomes coming from their use. The project aims to support new and potential services by putting them in touch with existing projects to spread shared experiences and advice. The RJC anticipate project costs of approximately £36'000 comprising £26'000pa to cover the salary and costs of a full time project worker and £10'000 for start up and running costs of the project.
