    Situation

What will Restoring London achieve; • Produce a Restorative London Map, identifying work currently taking place in the capital • Formulate a London Advocacy Strategy to guide our work with local groups • Launch a Restoring London Finance Scheme and organise a Restoring London Finance Day • Launch a Volunteer Scheme to co-ordinate a bank of volunteers and other outputs • Produce and distribute best practice guidance for London • Trial our standards and accreditation of restorative justice practitioners in the capital. • Advance the use of restorative justice in dealing with diversity issues The Need and how it was assessed: The current position of restorative justice in London is one of a handful of projects plus aspects of the work of local mediation services with limited statutory provision for victims of young offenders. Most projects are borough-based, struggling for funds with little time to manage their finances or deliver training to volunteers. The development of restorative justice has been slower in London than the rest of the country owing in part to the unique challenges and complexities of the capital. A concerted effort is necessary to encourage local leadership and identify the barriers to an innovative movement such as restorative justice. How Restoring London will be delivered: Funding will enable the RJC to support the development of a comprehensive network of groups across the capital over the next three years. With this project we want to help groups in London come together to share their experience and enthusiasm whilst providing support for their work. Research is needed to produce a map of restorative work in London as the first step. For statutory bodies we will train staff in key skills and formulate a London advocacy strategy. The potential is that London can become a beacon for good practice for the rest of the UK. This will be evaluated through our ongoing work on standards and accreditation of restorative practice. We will also produce best practice guidance. The project will break down the barriers between restorative justice a wide range of marginalised groups focused on race and religion. It will also tackle lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LBGT) discrimination. We shall form partnerships with other organisations in the field and organise a full day conference on Restorative Justice and Diversity. The Project will cost £134351 over three years. The primary cost will be the salary and on costs of a part time project manager (£46272 over three years) The schemes themselves: Volunteer Scheme - £16000, Finance Scheme - £6500, Standards Scheme - £3000, Diversity event - £2500. Other costs include contributions to the administrative support & line management of the project manager and a contribution to office resources, travel & subsistence.
