We will work closely with two village communities in rural Tamil Nadu to identify and respond to their long-term needs and promote self-dependence. By focusing on smaller units we will learn how to work with larger groups to respond to their needs.

    Situation

Tamwed, being a small charity, can not begin to meet the needs of the large populations supported by our two partner NGOs in South India. It is also difficult for our supporters and donors to relate to wide areas with populations of thousands. By working with two extremely poor and isolated villages we can identify with families and individuals and broker a relationship between our supporters in the UK and the villagers in India. We will liaise very closely with all members of the communities concerned to ensure that their situation and needs are understood before we agree a programme of support with their representatives and with our partner NGOs. Lessons learned will inform future projects undertaken by Tamwed and by other Western organisations that work in the area. The theme to our charity's work is sustainability and our projects aim to encourage long term self-sufficiency without dependence from outside organisations.
