Situation
Uganda is one of the poorest nations in the world, with nearly 40% of its citizens living below the poverty line. The bulk of those living in extreme poverty are in the rural areas, where over 80% of the population is based. Uganda has a young population, and youth unemployment is high. Only around a third of the population is literate, and there are very limited opportunities for affordable, accessible, training and development - which would increase opportunities to earn an income.
Solution
By offering a comprehensive 12 month vocational training programme which includes business and financial management, health awareness, life skills, practical placements, a start up kit of tools, and support to form a business, our project will empower people with the skills and knowledge to earn a sustainable income, and to improve their lives and those of their families and communities. The aim is to support an empowered community that is not dependent upon ongoing financial support.
