    Situation

The redevelopment of the Sherman Cymru building provides a much needed opportunity to reinvigorate theatre production and presentation in Cardiff, to make a significant national and international contribution to the development and achievement of theatre in Wales, and to create a revitalised facility for both audiences, practitioners and participants. The need to redevelop the Sherman building has been widely recognised for a considerable time. Given the current poor state of the building it is imperative to move forward with an achievable redevelopment programme. The redevelopment will see an end to th leaky roof, seats that are in a drastic state of repair, heating and ventilation systems that are woefully outdated and WCs that reguarly block and flood the building. The changes will achieve significant outcomes for audiences, participants and the community: -Provide a fit-for-purpose building that can address current Health & Safety issues - Achieve a high level of access throughout the building - Transform the front of house areas - Provide a more comfortable experience for audiences with new seating - Substantially improve rehearsal facilities, with the new build of a rehearsal room that is equivalent size to the performance area of main stage.
