    Situation

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure for the long-term some of the most important habitats within an area described by Natural England as 'one of the most important areas for wildlife in the country and an undoubted centre of biodiversity'. The sites are being sold on the open market and there is a danger that they could fall into the wrong hands and end up poorly managed, carved-up into pony paddocks or worse.

    Solution

The acquisition of this land and the forming of the consortium gives a unique opportunity to create The Great Heath Living Landscape. A Living Landscape that spans the urban conurbation of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole connecting the New Forest National Park and the Wild Purbeck Nature Improvement Area, thereby creating one of the largest unbroken areas of land and sea, with natural heritage conservation at its heart, to be found in the UK.
