    Situation

Our Wildlife Trust has a passion for nature that we love to share. We invent exciting games and activities for children that reveal the wonders of wildlife. Our pioneering Trailblazers (Environmental Champions of the Future), Education for a Greener Future (waste education), Climate Change programme and superb education facilities at the Penwortham Environment Education Centre complement our work to develop school grounds where children meet wildlife face to face. We are widely regarded as leaders in the field of innovative environmental education We would like every child in our area to be able to experience our inspirational work. There are around 1.2 million under 16s in our area. Over a five-year period we could reach every one of them by spending a day with their class – at a cost of £8 million (or £6 per child). By educating these children about our precious wildlife, we will capture their enthusiasm for nature on the doorstep and focus their awareness of their impact on the world. We will channel this into a desire to protect our countryside and to live more lightly on the earth. From past experience, we know that we can use the influence of children to change the behaviour of their family. This project will therefore have a maximum impact on a huge majority of the population of Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside.
