We are inundated with requests to help people who are homeless - nearly always though no fault of their own. Just today I took a call from 2 young people age 18 - one is in work, one is self employed. They have been made homeless [AGAIN!} from a farm where they live in a small caravan and now they cannot even think or speak straight they are so distraught. They were both homeless at 16 - they were advised by officials that they should be at home - if your Mum was an alcoholic would you want to stay at home at great risk? Our vision is to build more high quality affordable flats for homeless people...

    Situation

we need your help because there is very little investment going into supported housing - from our daily experience we think more needs to be done NOW... the latest Regional Housing strategy from SEEDA stated that supported housing investment in the GOSE region was the lowest in the UK - but there was insufficient evidence about the need to increase it. and yet surely with house prices in the South East at the highest in the UK; and likely to rise stil further - there can be little excuse for not providing affordable and supported housing - to pick up the many who are going to fall off the housing ladder... as well as those who have already falled off but cannot be counted or take part in data collection about homeless people ... because they are homeless..! within Kent the Supporting People team have published a strategy that states that they will invest in more supported housing units for young people in west kent - welcomed by all the agencies. When we heard they only want to commission 8 units we thought we had misread the email... There is a real need to do more - we need your help to build and run new hosuing provision and to provide professional holistic support, and to facilitate training and inclusion for all residents. we have the needs, the contacts, the skills and track record but to do this properly we need a big investment - we can scale the project from £250k to £750k to suit your interests.
