    Situation

West Kent YMCA's Supported Housing Project - RYDER HOUSE - is working in partnership with 5 other YMCAs - 4 in UK and 1 in Africa - to run INNER JOURNEY II We are still seeking some funding for INNER JOURNEY II - but we long to expand this so that every 6 months we can take upto 16 people to Africa from several housing projects. A donation iro £100k would allow this to be established for several years - and for some economy of scale on airflights and other costs. Such expeditions are usually reserved for 'posh' kids - often at posh schools - with Mummy or Daddy paying £1000 or more - which is GREAT .... BUT We want those who are MOST disadvantaged to have a chance - on this life changing experience. It's NOT a soft option - they have to train hard as a team before they go, they must trek and find, kill and cook food in the wilderness, they will work in local schools, on envirnmental projects... AND will even work in a village where everyone is dying of HIV/Aids.... The life and death issues they grapple with can only make them better more balanced compassionate people who will NEVER forget their very long inner journey - it will change their life and outlook - and build up their self esteem and confidence. we hope you can catch the vision? - if not plase listen to the residents themselves - come and meet them [not our staff - unless you really want to?] - invite them to come to you - ask us for a DVD made by residents who went on Inner Journey I
