KIDS has four adventure playgrounds in London, one of which is our Hayward playground based in Islington. KIDS is seeking the funding to extend this playground adding offices and residential facilities.

    Situation

Our adventure playgrounds help disabled children and young people develop so many essential skills through play. They also provide an opportunity for siblings to play with their disabled brothers or sisters in a supported environment and have some time away from their caring responsibilities, while at the same time giving parents a much needed break to do other important tasks or have some time to themselves. Our Hayward adventure playground supports over 300 disabled children, young people and their siblings on a daily basis. KIDS is looking to renovate the existing site, extending facilities that we have in the play centre as well as developing it further. KIDS hopes to add offices to the site, enabling all of the London team to be in the same place. The plan is also to add a residential block for disabled young people going through transitions (a period which KIDS already supports through a number of services), giving them the opportunity to try living independently, but still in a supported environment. KIDS would also like to add a community cafe to the site, giving disabled young people the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, another way to support them in their transition to adulthood. The whole project will probably cost around £3.5m, but any donation towards it's delivery is very much appreciated.
