We will train 100 unemployed young men and women in Zambia in building skills, give them work experience on a construction project and support them get a job and develop a career. This allows them them to work their way out of poverty, achieve financial independence and provide for their family.

Situation
Zambia is one of the poorest countries in the world: 64% live below the poverty line and 80% have no regular income. Each year less than 10% of the 300,000 school leavers have an opportunity to go onto any vocational training, with the poor, women and those in rural areas, the most excluded. For those that do manage to get a training place, it is often of out-of-date, offers no practical experience and no post-qualification support. Young men and women are caught in a poverty trap.
Solution
Build it has developed a unique and highly successful model - we have already trained 500 builders. Every trainee completes our 400-hours Building Skills Training Course, delivered by experienced trainers. This includes Life Skills training and each trainees gets at least 3 months' real work experience. 97% of our trainees pass their building qualification. After that we link them to employers and support them to develop their career.
