The women’s resource centre will provide a sanctuary for women suffering from domestic violence – for both women living in The Haven’s refuges and those choosing to live in their own homes. The resource centre will be a space for education, empowerment and spiritual wellbeing.

    Situation

One in four women experience domestic violence in their lifetime. The abuse can be physical, psychological, financial or sexual. It leaves women feeling depressed, isolated and trapped with low self-esteem and confidence. She will start to believe the insults and criticism from her abuser are true. She may feel ashamed about what has happened or believe that it is her fault. Many women feel that they are completely alone in their experiences and do not know where to turn or who to talk to

    Solution

The resource centre would give the women somewhere to escape to and begin to re-build confidence and self-esteem which has been destroyed. When women have been trapped in a cycle of abuse, they sometimes refer to ‘something clicking’ in their minds to give them the strength to move on. The aim of the resource centre would be to trigger, and nurture, this strength. The resources centre’s services will be holistic, combating all the different effects of domestic violence.
