This campaign has now closed

The women and children living in The Haven’s refuges have been made homeless as a result of domestic abuse. This Christmas we are raising money for trips for the children to give them an opportunity to experience new things and have fun - a day to just be children.

    Situation

Children are often silent witnesses of abuse; it is estimated that in 90% of incidents children are in the same or next room when domestic violence takes place. This exposure to violence at a young age can lead to immediate and longer term emotional and psychological difficulties e.g. low self-esteem, nightmares, depression and problems at school. Children have been stripped of their childhoods, left to feel angry and confused, and they need support and an opportunity to simply be children again

    Solution

Being away from home with an uncertain future is far from a fairy-tale, yet the children’s resilience in refuge shows their strength and bravery. Our Children’s Service works creatively with few resources to support children to come to terms with their experiences through play. However, activities can be limited; we know many of the children have never had a trip to the seaside or a theme park. Please help us change that and give the children a chance to experience new things and have fun
