To provide modern, safe and accessible accommodation to adults with severe learning disabilities, and associated physical disabilities. Smaller units will encourage a more independent lifestyle, and lead to new opportunities to help in the running of their own home.

Situation
The layout of the old house no longer suits the growing needs of the residents, particularly as they grow older and have less mobility. It is an old Victorian house over three floors with steep staircases and narrow corridors which prevent those in wheelchairs from reaching all areas. For some of the long-term residents, a higher level of support is also needed around the onset of early dementia.
Solution
The old house will be demolished and three 5-bed units built on its footprint. These will offer a more pleasant living environment, smaller staff teams, and a choice of who each individual lives with. One unit will be dedicated to looking after those showing early signs of dementia, a common development for people with learning disabilities.
