    Situation

The Central Kalimantan Orangutan Reintroduction Program at Nyaru Menteng currently cares for over 550 apes in the clinic, socialisation cages, forest school and pre-release islands that make up our centre. These are orangutans that have either lost their natural habitat or been captured and held as pets. The ultimate goal is to reintroduce orangutans back into forests where they can live an independent life, breed freely and bolster conservation of the wild o

    Solution

The survey will allow the experts to describe the area and determine its potential for sustaining orangutans in the long term. This information is essential for applying to the authorities for permission to reintroduce orangutans to these forests, and to ensure the forests themselves are both safe and suitable for this objective.
