Every day in the UK, 340 people have a heart attack, and suffer irreversible damage to their heart muscle. For many, this can lead to severe heart failure, a condition that cuts short thousands of lives every year. But now the zebrafish, and a remarkable research programme, are giving us real hope that lives could be saved. In fact, one day you might owe your life to this remarkable programme.
Solution
Through the Mending Broken Hearts research programme scientists are hoping to learn how we could make our own hearts repair themselves, just like the zebrafish. Amazingly, there is now hope that we could take this breakthrough research to early clinical trials in just five years. The British Heart Foundation is committed to a £50 million funding programme, to make this happen. We can't do it without your help.
