Jacksons Lane itself, earns half it’s annual income every year. In particular through room hire and Studio One is it’s most spectacular space. However, after years of use it is in need of essential equipment, the lack of it is causing a huge loss of the key income that allows Jacksons Lane to carry on as an essential part of the community and key venue to the London arts scene.

    Situation

On the fully sprung dance floor, rehearsals take place underneath the original church beams and arches. This room is popular with many dance, theatre and circus companies, as the dimensions of the room (8m x 37m) make it one of the largest rehearsal spaces in North London. This unique room can house up to 120 people. Currently, Studio One has two mirrors which are not practical enough for large dance rehearsals. If there were sufficient mirrors, it would ensure that Jacksons Lane would be able to provide the highest quality in rehearsal venues, making it an extremely attractive space for high profile dance and theatre companies, on a level with Siobhan Davies and Saddlers Wells. Due to the nature of the sprung dance floor and the importance of maintaining it, we require a multi purpose dance floor cover to protect it from damage. The floor cover would allow us to expand the range of hires within Studio One, we could hold tap, flamenco and other activities which require users to wear hard soled shoes. Jacksons Lane would be able to hire the room out for private parties and wedding receptions, something which we have constant requests for but are unable to do for fear of damage to the floor In terms of maintaining our ongoing facilities within Studio One, we would like to update our sound and lighting system – both of which are functional but not flexible enough for all our users’ demands. The costs for the mirrors stand at £6000 and the floor cover as £4000 Having the opportunity to hire out Studio One to these companies would allow Jacksons Lane to raise much needed funds independently but also to forge links with some of the most influential people in dance and theatre. This new influx of people into the centre would allow us to develop new audiences and participants for all the courses, classes and theatre productions. We would also welcome back past users such as the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, David Glass Ensemble and Spirit Productions. Jacksons Lane profile would be enhanced to become not only the destination venue for theatre, but also as the prime location for rehearsal spaces throughout the whole of London.
