Station Hall is the National Railway Museum's second largest space and is home to a variety of passenger and freight vehicles in addition to the NRM's most popular exhibit - the Royal Carriages. NRM is refurbishing this space to create an inspiring and authentic station experience for our visitors.

Situation
Station Hall was originally the city's railway goods depot but it feels like a passenger station building, with a wide concourse, long platforms and an airy open feel. Few developments have been made since it opened in 1990 and the renovation project aims to take advantage of the building's authentic railway architecture and breathe new life into the space.
Solution
The improvements will enable the NRM to tell the story of the social history of the railways, creating an evocative space allowing visitors to 'step back in time' and get closer to the Collection than ever before. It will allow the display of many more station objects, improve lighting throughout the space and create an immersive and multi-sensory environment that puts the collection into context. Interpretation will be improved and visitors will also be able to get inside more vehicles.
