Built in the 1960s, Deltics represent the birth of high speed passenger service from London to Scotland. Reaching speeds of 100 mph, Deltics revolutionised rail travel by ending the dominance of steam and significantly reducing journey times. Following its restoration to heritage lines, the engine has received many requests to be used for diesel galas and touring. Mainline operation will provide greater access, allowing more people to enjoy and learn about the engine’s role in railway history.

In response to this enthusiasm, the Museum and volunteers have launched a new appeal to raise a further £25,000 to restore the engine to mainline operation. All the money raised will go directly to Deltic 55002 and the volunteers will restore the engine. Your contribution will pay for On Train Monitoring Recorder, registration of the engine, Train Protection Warning System and mechanical updates.
