Less than 10% of primary school teachers in South Sudan are female (EMIS 2011) and nearly all those are untrained teachers. There are no qualified female teachers to act as role models in most schools so girls are not aspiring to teaching careers. About 75% of male teachers are also untrained.

We will offer 50 men and women a four year in-service teacher training course delivered by qualified teacher trainers in partnership with Yei teachers training college in South Sudan using qualified tutors to deliver the course and provide mentoring in the classroom. This project relates to the final year of training as we have have already provided three years of inservice training.
