    Situation

Although Ghana is one of Africa's more developed nations, the northern regions suffer from extreme poverty. Low adult literacy rates, small incomes, high malnutrition in under-fives and low school attendance are major problems. People are predominately subsistence farmers but the environment is hostile. There is widespread discrimination against women and they have very little rights. Traditionally they are not able to own land to enable them to support themselves and their own children.

    Solution

Working with our partner in Ghana - the Community Self Reliance Centre (CSRC), the project will build strong women's groups and stronger communities that are able to manage their own resources and problems. Through training, advocacy and practical resources, communities will be supported to access and act upon their rights as they relate to their livelihoods; access to land, food, health, education and political participation and leadership.
