    Situation

Arusha is Tanzania’s second largest city and is experiencing rapid commercial growth. It acts as a magnet to young men and women from rural areas seeking employment, most of whom have a limited formal education and few skills. For these youths the opportunities for employment are still very limited. Most young people end up living in shanty or squatter areas. The majority become involved in illegal employment.

    Solution

Working with our local partner, Community Aid and Small Enterprises Consultancy (CASEC), the main Youth Resource and Information Centre will act as an umbrella organisation for 4 youth centres in squatter areas, providing support and training for these centres as well as other institutions in Arusha. From here 450 youths will be able to learn skills and gain awareness about the risks they face and these can be avoided.
