    Situation

Currently LEAD Europe has offered places to over 30 outstanding leaders from all over Europe, Asia and Latin America to join our innovative European leadership and climate change programme. Sadly, the majority of applicants from countries that are in greatest need of visionary leaders will not be able to participate in the LEAD programme for lack of funding. Outstanding individuals like: Arshaluys Muradyan a communication and project officer for an NGO in Armenia. Arshaluys is keen to learn more about sustainable development and leadership so she can increase public awareness of the challenges of climate in Armenia. Arshaluys works on cross sector projects in a country where climate change and sustainable development are not really on the government agenda or high in the public conscience. Tural Ahmad a programme officer specializing in environmental law based at the International Republican Institute of Azerbaijan who wants to deepen his knowledge and experience of sustainable development in practice. Tural’s passion lies in being able to assist others to gain an understanding of the impact of modern production and consumption practices on the environment, society and the economy of his country. He is striving to become one of Azerbaijan’s leading sustainable development advocates. Farzona Khashimova, an exceptionally talented and courageous gender, youth and human rights worker from Uzbekistan, who is a consultant for the National Association of NGO’s of Uzbekistan. Farzona wants to establish new networks with professionals from across Europe. She wants to learn from others and take away some new ideas and fresh thinking to apply to some of the challenging work she does with local communities in Uzbekistan. Raluca loana Cibu Buzac who works for the Department for Regional Development and Internationalisation in Romania wants international training that addresses the challenges of sustainable development and climate change. Raluca wants to develop her leadership skills and build a global support network of peers. Raluca believes that complex global challenges like climate change that cross geographical boundaries require a new kind of global thinking and leadership. She wants to be one of those new global leaders. Syed Tariq Mustafa from Pakistan who works in the export and marketing department of TCP, a government owned public sector trading house. Mustafa wants to learn about what Europe is doing to try and tackle climate change, develop his leadership skills and become an agent of change in his sector, and Nepal. He wants to broaden his horizons and form strong relationships with peers who are working for a more sustainable future. Tek Jung Mahat from The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in Nepal. The ICIMOD is an independent regional knowledge, learning and enabling centre that works to help the mountain population of the greater Himalayas enjoy improved well-being in a sustainable global environment. Tek wants to join the LEAD Europe programme to enhance his leadership skills and to gain insights into European thinking and global debates around climate change challenges. The total cost of the LEAD Europe programme is 6600 - 9500 euros. A donation of 7000 euros would help one leader to participate in the LEAD Europe programme and become part of a global network. If you think you can help us give these leaders the opportunity to participate in our programme or would like to hear more about our work not just in Europe but around the world, please contact me at the address below.
