Technology is vastly shaping our lives and has become a vital resource in communicating with family and friends. In a rapidly developing technological age, it is essential that we begin to encourage our residents to embrace these changes and provide a better quality of life for our residents.

    Situation

We live in a digital age and the number of older people over 90 is expected to increase by 160% by 2040. More people will be utilising Abbeyfield houses so Abbeyfield need to start using technology to remove a new wave of isolation to our older generations. It is with this in mind that we are now seeking funding to begin developing this vital resource across Abbeyfield and give older generations the opportunity to remain in touch with friends and loved ones.

    Solution

With the aid of young volunteers, Abbeyfield hopes to introduce residents to the World Wide Web, which not only gives them the facilities to contact family and friends, but also concentrates on bridging the gap between today’s younger generation and older generations, building new relationships and providing a knowledgeable insight into each other’s lives.
