Be Our Valentine is a project set up to highlight and address loneliness and isolation in our older generation as a year round problem. Building on our Companionship at Christmas campaign, Abbeyfield is opening our doors to local older people to invite them to a sociable lunch with our residents.

Situation
On average, an estimated 850,000 people in the UK are chronically lonely and this is an ongoing daily issue. With cuts to voluntary and local authority services, growing numbers of older people are having difficulty accessing support and many would benefit from extra companionship and meals but still want to continue living in their own homes.
Solution
To help combat the increasing trend in isolation, Abbeyfield will open its doors to older people who are alone or who might be lonely. Respondents will be offered meals and companionship from our residents and other locals participating. By opening our doors we will encourage local older people to take part in social coffee mornings and other activities, offering them companionship throughout the year.
