Abbeyfield currently offers a mix of residential care, nursing care, supported sheltered housing & independent living flats & bungalows together with a day centre on the site in Nottingham. We plan to offer dementia care for 12 new residents and seek funds for a secure sensory garden.

    Situation

People are enjoying fuller and longer lives than ever before and the population in the UK is ageing rapidly. A 160% increase in the number of people over 90 is expected in the UK by 2040. On current trends one in five will need care and one in five will suffer from Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. The addition of much needed dementia services in Nottingham will provide care for local older people for the rest of their lives, especially for those with increasing frailty or confusion.

    Solution

12 new residents' rooms with ensuite facilities will be provided which are designed to be disabled and wheelchair friendly. A new eco-lift, assisted bathroom for those residents who need extra help with bathing and various communal areas including a lounge, dining area, sensory garden and conservatory. A Snozelen (sensory) room on the first floor will provide a soothing and safe environment which stimulates primary senses with music, lighting effects and gentle vibrations.
