Physiotherapy is an essential service for people with life-limiting illnesses, helping them to control & cope with symptoms and adjust to the physical changes resulting from their condition. We want to ensure all our patients have access to the physiotherapy they need, in our hospice or at home.

    Situation

Reduced mobility, weakness and pain as a result of the patients condition and the medical treatment received, plus breathlessness and fatigue: these are all common symptoms experienced by people with cancer and other life-limiting conditions that reduce quality of life and functional independence. Physiotherapy can help patients make significant changes to the way they deal with these issues and help them to remain safe in their own homes.

    Solution

Physiotherapy will help our patients manage their symptoms and cope with reducing mobility. Gentle exercise programmes will reduce muscle wastage and spasm, and we will teach strategies to help cope with breathlessness. We will advise on the use of mobility and positioning aids where appropriate. This will help our patients live as full a life as possible, for as long as possible. Their improved situation will also have a positive impact on family members and carers.
