I’m on a journey to get the bricks to build the rest of my life 12 million people, 1 city, 300 languages, 1000 stories. In a city that never sleeps a man gets into a taxi, a young girl visits a burial ground and a boy waits at an airport. High above workers are building the city bigger, higher and stronger than we ever believed. But in this city of strangers how do we stay connected? Project Phakama explores what happens when strangers collide and the course of their lives are changed forever.

    Situation

'When Time is not' will be created out of the collaboration with C.A.T. (Creative Arts Team) from New York City University. The collaborative process involves using emails, facebook, telephone conversations, sending pictures, songs, objects and poems by post. Next July Project Phakama UK will premier its piece at Theatre Royal Stratford East and will then travel to Liverpool to present it as part of the Contacting the World Festival. For this particular priece Project Phakama is putting together a core team of young artists that arrived in the UK as refugees and asylum seekers, a young ex-offender and a number of British-born young people. Project Phakama aims to: 1) create an outstanding piece of theatre that will engage audiences 2) involve our young participants in all the stages of the production of 'When Time is not' 3) create a piece of theatre that is relevant to young people today 4) open up a creative dialogue between young people from different backgrounds
