    Situation

Every year around 8 million children are born with birth defects, almost 95% of them in low and middle income countries. At least 3million people a year die as a consequence. And although 70% of birth defects are preventable or treatable, many through very simple interventions, they remain a low priority on the public health agenda, especially for low and middle income countries. Born Healthy aims to increase services to prevent and treat birth defects.

    Solution

Now more than ever, funders demand clear evidence of the difference their support can make to a particular health need before they will take action. Garnering that evidence is a huge but essential task if resources are to be secured to improve services. We are developing a toolkit to help countries present a clear evidence-based case to secure resources to combat birth defects and their damaging consequences
