    Situation

While the big names of earlier twentieth-century Latin American poetry, such as Pablo Neruda, Cesar Ballejo and Octavio Paz, are well known in the UK, yet there is a paucity of knowledge of more recent work. 2010 is the bicentennial of Mexican independence and the centennial of the Mexican revolution, and this tour is an opportunity to introduce British audiences to the continuing inventiveness of poets from one of the major centres of literary activity in Latin America at a time when Mexico and Mexican culture will be very much in the public eye. We expect the tour to visit 10-15 venues across the UK, attracting live audiences of more than 1,250 and in excess of 15,000 through our website. To coincide with the tour we also plan to publish dual language chapbooks introducing the work of the three poets, and to make this work available digitally via our website.
