    Situation

SNS is a cornerstone of INSP's work to foster a strong and united street paper movement. It was first established in 2002 and in 2005, expanded into a global service. Initially a fortnightly e-mail feed, it has matured into a web-based forum with weekly instalments of international news, features, interviews, editiorials and photographs from street papers around the world. A detailed plan has been put together by staff working with 9 representatives drawn from our international street paper membership to capitalize upon the exciting growth and energy surrounding the SNS over the past 2 years. This has included key collaborations with Reuters and Inter Press Service and a growth in published articles to 1,088 last year. Our vision is to continue to broaden the global impact of independent media, providing a medium for alternative, previously unheard voices to spread the street papers' distinctive anti-poverty message. The following four key activities have been identified for the coming year: website redevelopment; editorial development; expanded translation services and staffing development. INSP has recently received EU funding support to move the SNS into its next stage of development. Additional support is required to create website functionalities to allow street paper vendors to share their work with the rest of INSP and a global audience.
