Situation

A critical missing link for the end of hunger in Africa is the economic empowerment of the most important but least supported food producers on the continent – Africa’s women. Women farmers & entrepreneurs’ access to micro-finance has become a real means of reducing poverty but they are often been denied education and the opportunity to learn skills crucial to set-up successful income generating activities, manage their loans and repay them in time.

Solution

The programme is designed for rural women and is implemented in epicentres (clusters of rural villages). Each epicentre is a hub for community activities as well as an actual facility built by community members, comprising of a food bank, demonstration farm, school, library, health clinic and meeting hall. The programme aims to provide women farmers and small entrepreneurs access to micro loans and trainings to setup and manage successful income generating activities and repay loans on time.
