It is estimated that six million tons of marine debris may be entering our ocean every year. One of the reasons Project AWARE is collecting marine debris data from divers is to help build a clear picture of the underwater trash that threatens ocean life. Project AWARE divers are rising to the marine debris challenge by taking local action and supporting the policy change necessary to prevent and reduce rubbish entering our ocean.

Reporting Dive Against Debris data is essential to fight back against marine debris. Once reported, the data enters a global database and helps support the development and implementation of policies to improve solid waste management at all levels.
