Situation

This project meets a targeted need by reaching disabled and vulnerable young people and their families who are: - in multiple need; - excluded from many mainstream services; and - have a range of health and well-being needs. Other healthy eating activities in the area do not target vulnerable or disadvantaged people. They also tend to be ad-hoc. Local charitable cafes are required to make a profit. This means they are often beyond the pockets of the people with whom we work.

Solution

Sessions will support 10-15 young people and their families, reaching a pool of 60-80 people over a 40-week cycle. Saturday Kitchen will cover: - What healthy eating means - How to shop and budget economically for healthy ingredients; - Creating nutritious, healthy and tasty menus, recipes, meal plans and lunch packs; - Communal cooking to create and eat a meal together; - Exchange of practices about how food is prepared and consumed in different cultures in a healthy eating context.
