    Situation

The Project The majority of children supported by Julia’s House are unable or have great difficulty in travelling because of their complex medical needs, for example needing 24-hour oxygen. Consequently, visiting Julia’s House is often not a viable option. This project provides a Lead Nurse to co-ordinate our community service in the North of the region, a Team Nurse to support the care staff, and for Carers to provide care in the children’s homes. The “North Dorset Team” provides care for children in this rural area who are unable to access our other services. For example, the Carers are equipped with activity boxes in order to provide art and craft activities such as posters, paintings, and scrapbooks. Outcomes The assistance given by the Carer enables the children to take part in activities that otherwise wouldn’t be possible. It also give parents a well earned break from the constant care required by the child. It can be a tremendous help to know that a kind and skilled Carer will come in regularly for a few hours to help. This takes the pressure off parents and enables them to rest, spend time with their other children or take part in other activities that most people take for granted. The relief of stress to the family unit as a whole in turn benefits the child and his/her siblings. Costs The costs of this project include the salary of the Lead Nurse, Team Nurse, Carers employed on a bank basis, training, and travel expenses.
