Each year almost 1,000 Burmese students desperate for a decent university education apply to us for grants. This year we have been able to fund less than 150 students. The students all commit to return to Burma with their skills when feasible and we would like to increase our scholarship grants.

    Situation

Burma's health and education systems are severely underfunded, leaving NGOs and foreign agencies trying to fill the huge gap. Prospect Burma believes that investing in the education of Burma's huge human potential - the youth on whom the country's future must depend - is the best way to build a better future for Burma. In the words of one of our students "Education is our lives, our hopes, our future, our peace, our tomorrow."

    Solution

We receive almost 1000 applications from Burmese students for scholarship grants each year. This year we are able to fund less than 150 of those students. We pay towards their university education and would like to increase the amount and the number of grants we give. The majority of students are educated at universities in Asia, all students commit to return to Burma with their skills when feasible. If we had more funding we could support more students.
