    Situation

Ready to Learn – our pilot magazine of excellence and good practice for all those involved in raising educational achievement through building effective school home links. With nearly twenty five years of experience in delivering school home support services, this magazine enables us to share our wealth of experience and our tried and tested models with others including head teachers, education professionals and coordinators, school home support practitioners (both SHS staff and others in schools and local authorities across the country). This magazine was born through consultation, with this audience who identified a need to recognize and professionalise their roles within the education environment. They expressed their need for information that is specific to establishing effective school home relationships, and engaging, useful and up-to-date. An analysis of competing organisations and current publications, such as newsletters and bulletins from organisations in similar fields to SHS and teaching unions found that these publications are targeted at, and limited to, single aspects of education such as delivering the curriculum, attendance and learning mentors. Ready to Learn will address these gaps in information access and support. The total annual cost of publishing, inlcuding photographs, design, proofing and printing is £12,000 (full budget breakdown of all costings available on request from Kim Sutton). We now require the funds to produce this magazine for a further year until it has become self sustainable through an affordable subscription scheme.
