    Situation

One of our key objectives for the 2008/13 strategic plan is to expand our services into two new regions, with one being a new central England region. In September 2007, we started delivering support within a Nottingham City primary school, representing our first school in this new region. With another 23 Nottingham city schools interested in offering school home support to their vulnerable school communities, we now aim to roll further services out into areas surrounding this school. This grant will provide 3-years of development funding needed to: a) Provide the essential seed-corn funding required to expand direct service provision out from this first trailblazing school in Nottingham city, to benefit a greater number of identified schools within deprived communities in the city and neighbouring rural areas and; b) Contribute to the essential core funds needed to develop a Central region office to manage and administer the work, including line management and administration staff and office rental and running costs. For every full time equivalent worker we place in schools, on average 500 children, young people and families are supported. We are confident that, with this 3-year investment, we will be able to help at least 5,000 children and young people to overcome their barriers to learning.
